For Gene Blicharz '76, Rider University became his home, one that he has continued to return to and support. After graduating from Notre Dame High School, Gene dove into the working world and received an electronic technology diploma at Trenton Technical Institute along the way.

It was one of his uncles, Joseph Belza, a Rider alumnus, who encouraged Gene to pursue a degree at his alma mater. Gene followed his uncle's advice and enrolled in Rider's College of Continuing Studies program. While working at General Tire and Rubber Company, he took business classes at the Lawrenceville campus and immediately experienced Rider's tight-knit community vibe.

"I spent eight years as a night student," explains Gene, who remembers the dedication and support of the faculty and staff. "They ensured that you got the guidance you needed. You just fell in love with the school."

Rider was a great match for Gene, who could immediately apply what he learned to his job. "My business day correlated with my business classes. I could use the skills right away. I was glued to that seat," he says.

Today, Gene, who is a professional in New Jersey's Department of Labor and Workforce Development, says he's proud of Rider's renewal and likes to see the institution continue to progress. That's why Gene supports Rider by serving on the Alumni Board and attending alumni events. He recently increased his support for Rider in his estate plans, specifically toward men's basketball and baseball.

"It's a good feeling I have because I have provided for Rider," Gene says. "I want to urge other people to do the same thing-provide for the institution that prepared you for career challenges."
